Midway Games released "Mortal Kombat Versus DC Universe" for the Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3 today. This latest entry into the Mortal Kombat series includes such DC comic book characters like Superman and Batman as characters you can play with or against.
IGN.com's Voodoo Extreme gives this game 7.5/10, a "Good" rating.
An interesting point about this game is that Midway wanted this game to get a "Teen" rating, rather than a "Mature" rating, mostly due to the fact that the finishing moves for each fighter have been toned down and the bloody finishing scenes have also been toned down. For instance, Deathstroke's fatality move just involves the screen going black, a few groans, and the opponent lying on the ground when the screen returns. In previous versions of Mortal Kombat, you could see the flying blood, smashing bones, and decapitated bodies when an opponent was finished, but not here.
It seems though that some of the gruesome fatality moves will still make the game in versions released in countries other than the U.S., including The Joker's fatality move.
This will likely irk some gamers in the U.S., who really love the realistic fight scenes of this series. Still, the game itself provides some solid fighting action and some interesting new characters that should appeal to those fans who really like DC comic book characters such as Superman, Batman, Captain Marvel, and The Joker, as well as those fans who like the Mortal Kombat characters like Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, and Scorpion.
